VURVEL OLENE CRUCE JONES, past resident of Chickasaw,
Alabama, and Adamsville, Alabama, died on September 17 at the age of
94. She was born in Corner, Alabama, to John Daniel and Margaret Turner
Cruce on December 27, 1916. She was the wife of the late Vincent Alverson
Jones of Birmingham, Alabama.
Treasured memories will reside in the hearts of those who knew her as
a kind, loving, generous wife, mother, and grandmother, a faithful sister
and friend to many, and a devoted Christian lady with a servant heart and a
special love for all little children.
She was a member of the Plateau Church of Christ (Mobile) for 16
years and the Adamsville Church of Christ (Birmingham) for the past 47
years. For many years she was employed by Lerner Shops and Zoghby’s of
Mobile and Yeilding’s of Birmingham.
She is survived by two daughters, Danya Jones Bowers of Fort Walton
Beach, Florida, and Camilla Jones Newbill (Vernon) of Mobile; three
grandchildren, Vernon Alton Newbill, Jr. (Deana), Lana Newbill Thompson
(John), both of Mobile, and Vincent Bradley Newbill (Dana) of Tuscaloosa;
five great-grandchildren, Bradford Phillip and Grace Katherine Thompson,
Stanley Alton Newbill, and Craig Vincent and Bradley Connor Newbill.
Predeceased by two brothers, Rex Burl Cruce and James Earl Cruce, and
three sisters, Jessie Cruce Jenkins, Nettie Cruce York, and Nellie Cruce
Higginbotham. She is survived by her sister, Helen Cruce Hammond of
Birmingham and brother, John Herbert Cruce of Birmingham, as well as
nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family would like to express appreciaton to the administrators and
staff at Springhill Manor Nursing Home, Mobile Infirmary Hospice care,
and to relatives and friends for their encouragement and help.
On Wednesday, September 21, visitation with friends and family will
be held from 9:00 to 10:45 at Crestview Memorial Funeral Home, 5250
Veterans Memorial Drive in Adamsville, and the memorial service will
follow at 11:00 in Crestview Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in
the Crestview Cemetery in Adamsville, Alabama. Funeral arrangements
are by Crestview. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made
