Ernestine Coffee-Whitten, age 84 of Mt. Olive, Alabama went to her heavenly home on Monday, October 28, 2019 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Coffee, and three siblings, Carolyn Lowery, Catherine Ogburn, and Chalmers Hipp. She was a native and life long resident of Birmingham. She was a former member of Westwood Baptist Church in Adamsville where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Senior Adult Choir. She was presently a member of Gardendale First Baptist Church. She was retired from Alabama Metal Industries (AMICO) after many years, and she loved to travel.
She is survived by her husband, Richard G. Whitten, Sr.; sons Jimmy Coffee and Barry Coffee (Joy); daughter, Jean Chappelear (Bob); grandchildren, Scott Chappelear (Holly), Patrick Coffee (Laura), Michael Coffee (Allison), Christine Eltzroth (David), and Susie Coffee; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 step-children; Sharon Ryder (Larry), Richard Whitten, Jr. (Betty), and Steven Whitten; 5 step-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; siblings, Ora Mae Aitken, James Hipp, Eleanor Brasher (Bill), and Jane Coshatt.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at Crestview Memorial Funeral Home in Adamsville, Alabama, with Pastor George Weeks and Leon Zalenski officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Gardens.
