Hilda Hill, born Hilda Ilene Sims, age 97, went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2019. Hilda was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama on June 5, 1922, to Emory and Sydney Sims. She was the eldest of thirteen children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of forty-four years, Earl Hill; a son, Frank Hill; and eight of her siblings.
Hilda grew up in the time when street cars were prevalent and upcoming merchants displayed their wares on their street corners in old Birmingham. She attended Phillips High School and was a devoted homemaker and friend. Hilda loved cooking, flower gardening, decorating her home, creating photo albums, and creating handwritten notes, cards and letters with beautiful cursive handwriting. She was devoted to daily scripture reading and prayer and lived her life by the Golden Rule. She was a classic Southern lady who was loved dearly by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Hilda’s kindness was rare and special. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Hill (Dorothy); daughter, Sheila Spruell (Theron); daughter-in-law, Frances Hill; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; four siblings, Pat Barros, Ronald Sims, Stephen Sims, and Richard Sims; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday, November 4, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon at Crestview Funeral Home in Adamsville, Alabama. A Graveside Service will follow at 12 noon at Midway Cemetery.
