Obituary

Robert Dean (RD) Atkins, age 68, passed away at his residence December 3, 2019. Dean was born 30th September 1951 in Sulligent, Lamar County, Alabama to Ira Milton & Mary Pauline Beasley Atkins. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Milton and Pauline Atkins; two brothers-in-law, Warren Mordecai, and Billy Mordecai. two sisters-in-law, Unnamed and Shirley Mordecai.

Mr. Atkins graduated high school at Sulligent in 1969. He went on to Bevill attending classes, and working construction and other odd jobs. In December 1970, he started working with Frisco Railroad which later became known as Burlington Northern Santa Fe. He moved to Graysville in 1972, returning home as much as possible. He married his childhood sweetheart and Love of his Life, Brenda Kay Mordecai on November 2, 1973. They moved to Sandusky in 1976, where they have resided ever since. Dean retired from the railroad June 5, 2015 with 44 1/2 years of service. He was a Mason, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #972.  He loved the outdoors, an avid farmer, learning to drive a tractor before his feet could even reach the pedals, raising their own gardens. He loved the water and boats, skiing when younger, and fishing, which he never outgrew, and would go as often as possible. He loved and enjoyed helping family, friends, loved ones, and whoever else needed help. He enjoyed playing cards and golf. He dearly loved his family and the Good Lord, and would beam with pride talking about them. He would do anything for anybody. He will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 46 yearsm Brenda Atkins; two sons, Bobby Atkins, and Tim (Tonya) Atkins; two granddaughters, Taylor, and Baylee Atkins; two sisters, Mary (Bobby) Godsey, and Traci (Greg) Huguley; one uncle, Robert (Ruth) Atkins; four sisters-in-law, Rita Bonner, Lena (J. M.) Hawkins, Peggy (Woodrow) Shaw, and Deborah Hayes; two brothers-in-law, Jim (Amanda) Mordecai, and Bruce (Lou) Mordecai; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Crestview Memorial Funeral Home in Adamsville, Alabama. Funeral Service will follow at 6:00 p.m. at Crestview Memorial Funeral Home Chape,l with Brother Greg Huguley and Brother Jim Mordecai officiating.
