Mrs. Sylvia Jean Skinner Copas, daughter of the late Jesse Henry Skinner and Edna Lucille Gibbs Skinner, was born September 1st 1939 in Layland, West Virginia. Sylvia was a long time member of SmokeRise Baptist Church In Warrior, Alabama. She attended church her entire life, until she was no longer physically able to and even then the sermons where brought to her and she would listen. She was also a long term member of The Order of The Eastern Star.
She was united in holy matrimony to Richard Wayne “Dick” Copas on June 21st 1957. This union was blessed with three children who she adored. Dick preceded her in death on January 6th 2003. Her beautiful life, spirit, and caring nature be remembered by us forever. She departed her earthly life on January 3rd 2020 surrounded by her children peacefully in her home.
She is survived by her children Pamela Copas Avery, Richard Wayne Copas II, and Nancy Copas Gray; her grandchildren Alixandria Copas Niblett, Richard Wayne Copas III, William Roderick Copas, Kayla Morgan Gray, Shaina Marie Avery, and Koleman Zane Gray; her great-grandchildren Richard Eli Copas and Ava Ariadne Niblett.
Services will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Crestview Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Herbert Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Gardens.
