Flora DeMelba Rainey Tyree, daughter of George Milton Rainey, Sr. and Zola Eutoka Bean, died August 11, 2019. Born and raised in Mulga, Alabama, she was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. Flora graduated from Minor High School in 1950 and began her 40 year career with Southern Bell and she continued until retirement from BellSouth in 1991.
A loving, caring, adventuresome Mother, Granny, Sister, and Aunt she enjoyed herself while participating in several local singles groups and with the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary.
Always ready to travel, she claimed "a natural curiosity to see where that road goes". She returned with many stories from her worldwide travels, and she loved sharing her experiences with everyone.
She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Cora Estelle Rainey, Frances Powers, Dorothy Harding, Betty McCay, Tommie Neumann, Clara Champion, brothers George Milton Rainey, Jr., John F. Rainey, Charles Rainey, and great-granddaughter, Sophia.
She is survived by her loving children Karen (Henry) Weeks, Shari (Ronnie) Sanford, Cynthia Box, Alton Leroy “Lee” Tyree, sister, Carolyn R. Houts, eleven grand children, eighteen great-grand children, many nieces and nephews, and travel buddy, Jackie Spitzer.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the caring women of Visiting Angels and Comfort Care Hospice.
She shared all that she had. Most importantly, she shared her unwavering love.
A time of visitation will be on Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the chapel of Crestview Memorial Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life immediately following with Rev. Keith Lairsey officiating. Burial will be at Village Falls Cemetery Mulga, AL.
