James Orval Jones, just “Pop” to everyone who knew him, passed away peacefully in the loving presence of his family on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at the age of 93. He served in the United States Navy in WW II and retired from U.S. Steel after working there for 40 years. He still maintained a friendship and talked regularly with co-workers and reminisced about his days at the U.S. Steel up until his death.
He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many but first and foremost he was a Christian. He always had a smile and witty sense of humor to all who knew him. He always enjoyed family whether it was family get-togethers for holidays/special occasions or the annual Jones/Crisler family reunion in Phil Campbell where he could visit with his siblings and their families.
Pop was born in Phil Campbell, AL and is preceded in death by his parents, John Oliver and Martha Jones, his loving wife, Martha Laverne Jones (Granny), four brothers - Robert Hoyt Jones, George Jones, Elmer Walker Jones; one sister - Flora Jane Bailey; three half brothers - William Jones, Leonidus Jones, Duel Jones; and one half sister - Macie Swiney.
Pop is survived by daughters Sandra McRee (Ron), Patsy Campbell, sons Cris Jones (Nancy), and Jeff Jones. Grandchildren Jamey McRee, Amanda Norris, Alison McRee, Corey Campbell, Heather Baker, Casey Campbell, Zachariah Jones and Nathaniel Jones. Nine great grandchildren and an extended family that will forever miss his smile. He is also survived by brother John Paul Jones and sister Leola Gordon.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 12 from 6 PM - 8 PM. Funeral Services are Friday, September 13 , 10:30 AM at Crestview Memorial Funeral Home with burial following at Crestview Memorial Gardens.
